If you’re considering divorce in Lancaster or Morecambe, one of the first things you’ll want to know is how much it will cost. At Pre-Law, we understand that clarity is essential when dealing with such a personal and emotional process. That’s why our family law services are offered on a transparent, fixed-fee basis, so you know exactly what you’re paying for from the outset.
The court fee and overall cost
The standard court fee to apply for a divorce in England and Wales is currently £593 (as of 2025). This is paid directly to the court when you file your application, regardless of whether you have legal support.
Beyond that, the main cost will depend on the level of assistance you need. For straightforward, uncontested divorces, where both parties agree and no major financial or childcare disputes arise, the process is often more affordable and quicker to resolve.

Our service covers everything from your initial consultation and tailored legal advice to preparing your application and guiding you through the process. Because we’re based locally, we understand the challenges people face in this community and aim to make legal support accessible without the uncertainty of hourly rates. What affects the cost of divorce?
Even with fixed fees, there are situations that can increase the overall cost. These include disputes about finances, property, or child arrangements, or where one party doesn’t cooperate with the process. In such cases, additional work is required, and we’ll always discuss any potential costs with you in advance before taking further steps.
If you and your spouse need to resolve financial matters formally through the courts, an application for a financial order (commonly known as a Form A application) carries an additional court fee of £275. This is separate from the divorce fee and may be necessary if you are seeking to divide assets, deal with pensions, or apply for spousal maintenance. You can often avoid this by reaching a financial agreement and applying for a consent order instead.
